Plein Air Workshop with Holly Horn – April 25
Plein Air Workshop | Saturday, April 25, 11:00 am – 1:30 pm
Come paint outside with award winning artist Holly Horn!
Location: Webster Arts Gallery, 2 Summit Ave, Webster Groves, MO 63119 – we will start by gathering inside and then venture out to practice!
Holly is hosting a relaxed, 2 ½ hour plein air painting demonstration where we’ll slow down, tune into the landscape, and explore what it really means to paint from life.
Holly will be sharing her personal setup, how she chooses a subject when everything feels beautiful and overwhelming, and how to use simple thumbnail sketches to find clarity before you ever begin painting. This is not about perfection. It’s about seeing more deeply, simplifying what’s in front of you, and building a process that feels intuitive and supportive.
Perfect for beginners, curious artists, or anyone wanting to reconnect with their creativity in a more grounded, outdoor way.
We will practice making thumbnail studies, so please bring a sketchbook or hard surface to sketch on. You may choose to bring an easel, if you prefer standing while sketching (great for having your paper parallel to your reference spot, and keeping your hands free for working), or a stool, if you prefer sitting. Holly will provide paper and vine charcoal for you to create your sketches. At the end of our time together, we will have a fun “throw down”, where we share all of our studies and insights, and see through each artist’s eyes.
