What’s Their Story? A Partnership with Humans of St. Louis. August 6 & 13
In this two-session workshop, Lindy Drew and Colleen O’Connell-Smyth will teach you how to conduct HOSTL-style interviews. Learn how to ask thought-provoking questions in a non-threatening way, helping people feel comfortable with opening up. After the August 6 workshop session, participants will practice the skills they have learned by interviewing someone they did not previously know well.
Returning for the August 13 workshop, participants will share the story of the person they interviewed, share the corresponding portrait, and discuss why they chose those particular quotes and photos to highlight. At the conclusion of the workshop, each story will be framed and displayed in the gallery during the Humans of St. Louis show.
Storytellers are invited to be present at the August 22 opening reception. Copies of the stories and photos created by participants in What’s Their Story? will be printed, collated and distributed to our patrons as well.
On August 27, the public is invited to join us for a short panel discussion, featuring Patrick Murphy, former PBS television producer, author and artist; Jaime Mowers, Editor-in-Chief and owner of the Webster-Kirkwood Times; and Lindy Drew, co-founder of HOSTL.
What’s Their Story is made possible through a partnership with Humans of St. Louis and by support from the Missouri Humanities Trust Fund.
